RAWALPINDI: Chairman of the Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE) Shahid Mehmood Khokhar Saturday stressed that the use of information technology (IT) is essential for modernising country’s judicial system.

Speaking as the chief guest at a special event, he noted that a modernised system would enable lawyers to facilitate their clients more efficiently.

The event, held on April 26, 2025, at the High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi, was organised by Sehrish Saba Raja & Associates Legal Clinic and Research Centre, in collaboration with the Society 5.0 Initiative, High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi, and the Law Students Council Pakistan.

International Governance Expert Ziaur Rehman, Law Student Council President Fatima Mazhar, Advocate Supreme Court Ms Shaista, and several senior lawyers also attended.

A highlight of the programme was a national-level AI pitch deck competition, offering a platform for law and technology students to present visionary ideas for integrating artificial intelligence into the judicial process. The competition stressed improving efficiency, accessibility, and transparency within the legal system.

Universities from across Pakistan participated enthusiastically, reflecting a growing interest in legal innovation. Institutions included IBADAT International University (Islamabad), Fatima Jinnah Women University, International Islamic University, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, University Law College (University of the Punjab, Lahore), National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Rawalpindi Law College Civil Lines, COMSATS University Abbottabad, National Law College, NUML, The Best Law College (Rawalpindi), Islamia College University (Peshawar), and UET Peshawar.

The competition commenced at 10am, with over 15 teams presenting innovative legal-tech solutions in parallel pitch sessions across three courtrooms. Standout teams included Courtroom Coders, CourtBot AI, JurisTec Innovators, Lex Futurum, Legalytics Team, and Smart Courtroom.

Students showcased cutting-edge proposals for streamlining court processes through virtual courtrooms, AI-powered legal research tools, automated documentation systems, and predictive justice algorithms.

Following a break for lunch and prayers, the event concluded with a closing ceremony and prize distribution. The guests praised the winning teams and applauded the creativity and dedication demonstrated by Pakistan’s emerging legal minds.

“This event demonstrates that the future of justice is not only digital but also collaborative, inclusive, and visionary,” remarked one of the chief guests during the closing ceremony.

The competition, serving as a pre-festival initiative of the upcoming AI Festival 2025, marks a significant step towards a tech-empowered judiciary. It celebrated the dynamic intersection of law and technology while empowering students to shape the future of Pakistan’s judicial landscape.
