ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman of the Senate, Raza Rabbani, has called for the immediate convening of a joint session of Parliament to develop a consensus and show the united position of the Pakistani nation against India’s act of “water terrorism.”

“The people of Pakistan and political parties need to stand united against the Indian threat. All parties need to set aside their differences to show unity against this act of Indian water terrorism,” he said on Wednesday while demanding a joint session of Parliament.

Rabbani strongly condemned India’s allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam incident without providing any proof. He stated that this is not the first time India has attributed its internal failures to Pakistan. “The incident could have been triggered by India itself, to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, which was negotiated under the auspices of the World Bank in 1960.” “The Indus Waters Treaty has weathered wars and decades of hostility in India-Pakistan relations but has continued to hold,” he said.

Rabbani asserted that suspending the treaty was a blatant violation of international law, and he termed it “water terrorism.” He emphasized that no party can unilaterally suspend such a treaty. He pointed out that India’s reaction has destabilized the entire region, for which India bears full responsibility.
