Two suspects, including a former policeman, were arrested in an injured condition during an alleged police encounter in Orangi Town on Thursday.
The operation was carried out by the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) of the Site Division. According to a spokesperson for the AVLC, the two most-wanted suspects were apprehended following an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement personnel.
One of the arrested individuals, identified as Ansar Ali, was revealed to be a dismissed police officer. Ali had previously been involved in a shooting incident involving a police party in Gulshan-e-Maymar. The second suspect, Talha alias Saddam, was a known criminal involved in multiple vehicle snatching cases. This marked his first arrest.
Preliminary investigations suggested that both suspects were linked to a large, organised criminal gang involved in the theft of cars and motorcycles. The stolen vehicles were reportedly sold in the interior regions of Sindh and Balochistan. During the operation, a stolen Suzuki Alto, registered AVU-323, which had been snatched in the Taimuria police jurisdiction, was recovered. Cases related to illegal arms possession and the encounter with the police had been registered against the suspects at the Mominabad police station. Authorities were conducting raids to capture other members of the criminal gang and recover additional stolen vehicles.
