Islamabad:The ninth three-day international conference titled ‘Mevlana Rumi and Hadhrat Sultan Bahoo – Preachers of Humanity, Peace, Love, and Tolerance’ concluded here on Thursday.
The Conference featured scholarly papers on Sufism presented in multiple languages by speakers from across Pakistan and various countries including the UK, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, and others.
In total, 180 speakers participated, delivering papers in their native languages. The conference comprised 30 sessions, including 20 academic and 10 dialogue sessions, alongside special segments featuring spiritual poetry, Sufi musical performances, and recitations of the mystical works of Rumi and Sultan Bahoo.
The concluding session was chaired by Lt. Gen. (r) Tahir Mahmood, Dr. Taqi Abedi (Canada), senior journalist Suhail Warraich, poet and writer Nadeem Bhaba, Dr. Niaz Akhtar (VC, Quaid-e-Azam University), Chairman Muslim Institute Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed Ali, and Prof. Dr. Saleem Mazhar (DG, National Language Promotion Department).
Sahibzada Sultan Ahmed Ali highlighted that the conference aimed to rebuild societal values and counter extremism, hatred, and intolerance by reviving the teachings of the Sufis. He emphasized that Sufism offers solutions to today’s social issues. Speakers reiterated that Sufi teachings are rooted in love for God and humanity, and advocate for peace, equality, and unity.
