16th annual alumni reunion of C B College for Women held
Rawalpindi:The 16th Annual Alumni Reunion of the C.B. College for Women, Rawalpindi, was held on 22nd April and witnessed a heartwarming turnout, with nearly 110 alumnae in attendance.
The atmosphere was electric with laughter, squeals of joy, and heartfelt embraces as old friends reconnected after nearly 30 to 40 years. The prime moving force behind this memorable event was Tahmeena Malik (Class of 1971), whose tireless efforts have been instrumental in keeping the legacy of her alma mater alive. Addressing the gathering – fondly referring to the attendees as ‘the girls’ – Tahmeena candidly shared her challenges in organizing the event, particularly the lack of timely RSVPs, delayed acknowledgments, and a general sense of disengagement. “This is a Herculean task,” she said, “and it requires commitment, effort, and perseverance to put up a good show.” She expressed her desire to step back and pass the torch on to the younger generation. However, her announcement was met with a resounding and emotional protest from the audience, who loudly shouted ‘NO!’ – a powerful testament to the respect and affection she commands.
Tahmeena extended a warm welcome to Raana Arshad Qazi (class of 1984), former Principal of C.B. College, and Sameena Amin Qadir, former Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Women’s University, both of whom graced the occasion with their presence.
In her address, Raana Arshad Qazi proposed the formation of a 14-member Alumni Board, with two representatives from each decade. She emphasised the importance of institutional strengthening through alumnae involvement, encouraging everyone to play a proactive role in supporting their former institution and shaping its future. The event also featured a lively raffle draw and exciting giveaways, adding an extra element of fun and surprise.
A sumptuous high tea concluded the gathering, as the evening ended with warm applause and heartfelt gratitude for the gracious hosts. The reunion was not just a celebration of shared memories, but also a reaffirmation of the enduring bonds that tie the C.B. College alumnae together.
