Rehabilitation centre for drug addicts opened in Hangu

HANGU: A drug rehabilitation centre was inaugurated at the District Jail Hangu on the directives of Inspector General of Prisons Usman Mehsud.Superintendent Tahir Jamal, Assistant Commissioner Asfandyar Khalid, and Deputy Superintendent Maimun Khan attended the ceremony. Speaking at the event, Asfandyar Khalid said that the initiative was launched to help incarcerated drug addicts recover from addiction and reintegrate into society.

The official said the newly established rehabilitation centre would provide medical, psychological, and physical treatment to inmates struggling with drug addiction.The jail authorities will engage the inmates in sports and recreational activities to support their recovery and ensure they lead a drug-free life after completing their sentences.

“Drug addiction is a curse and a poison that destroys individuals on mental, physical, and social levels,” he said. “It is a collective responsibility to fight this menace,” the official added.The speakers added that the IG Prisons had instructed jail administrations across the province to take concrete steps against drug use within jails and to work for the welfare of inmates.

The District Jail Hangu, they noted, was making efforts, ensuring cleanliness, providing quality meals, and maintaining respectful treatment of inmates to prevent feelings of neglect.The officials expressed hope that with continued efforts, not only the province but the entire country could eventually be freed from the scourge of drugs. On this occasion, hygiene kits were distributed among the inmates.
