Police dismantle protest camp in Parachinar
PARACHINAR: The protest sit-in that had been ongoing for three days in Sameer Chinarabad in the Kurram district was called off on Tuesday after successful negotiations with the district administration.
In another development, police dismantled a protest camp that had been in place for 53 days outside the Parachinar Press Club and took one person into custody. Social activist Musarrat Bangash stated that the sit-in at Sameer Chinarabad ended after successful talks with the district administration.
However, he expressed concern over the police action at the Press Club, saying that despite the breakthrough in negotiations, the dismantling of the long-running protest camp was unjustified. The protesters had intended to wrap up the camp themselves after the conclusion of the other sit-in, he added. According to police, one individual was detained during the operation, and action was ongoing across the district to apprehend individuals wanted by law enforcement.
For the past seven months, major routes in Kurram district have been blocked, causing severe difficulties for residents, including access to food and medical care.Officials stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, along with other senior officials, was expected to visit Parachinar in the coming days, with several measures for restoring peace expected to be announced.
