HYDERABAD: Thirteen people died when a Mazda truck carrying members of the Kohli community, returning from harvesting wheat in Dureji, Balochistan, overturned on an uphill climb near Tong, a region in the Kohistan area of District Jamshoro, and fell into a ditch on Monday.
According to the Jamshoro police, the accident occurred due to brake failure while ascending, resulting in the deaths of 13 people and injuries to more than 20 others, including children and women.
Due to the remote Kohistan location, rescue operations began with a delay. Local residents helped transport the injured to hospital. Jamshoro SSP Siddique Chhanga stated that police and rescue efforts were ongoing. According to the SSP, due to the lack of facilities in Kohistan hospitals, the injured are being transferred to hospitals in Hyderabad and Nooriabad, where an emergency has been declared.
