Tribute paid to legacy of distinguished alumnus
Islamabad:Islamabad College for Boys (ICB), G-6/3, one of the capital’s oldest and most esteemed educational institutions, paid a moving tribute today to one of its most distinguished alumni - the late Ambassador M. Mijarul Quayes (1960-2017), a celebrated Bangladeshi diplomat and statesman, says a press release.
Established in 1966, ICB has a proud legacy of shaping leaders, thinkers, and professionals across various fields. Among its accomplished alumni, Ambassador Quayes remains a shining example of intellect, vision, and international leadership. He studied at ICB from 1965 to 1971 before moving to Bangladesh, where he embarked on a remarkable diplomatic career spanning over three decades.
A commemorative ceremony was held at the ICB campus, where alumni, students, and faculty gathered to honor Ambassador Quayes’ memory and celebrate his enduring contributions to diplomacy, human rights, and cultural exchange. The event brought together several notable alumni, including Senator Ms. Fauzia Arshad, Ambassador Ashraf Qureshi, Supreme Court Judge Justice Athar Minallah, and Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan (Retd.). They fondly recalled their school days and shared cherished memories of their interactions with Mijarul Quayes. “He was someone who made learning an adventure - he would challenge himself to learn a new word every single day,” remembered Ambassador Ashraf Qureshi. “He inspired us all with his discipline, curiosity, and passion for knowledge.”
The guest of honor at the event was Mrs. M. Mijarul Quayes, who traveled from Bangladesh to attend the tribute. In an emotional address, she shared her late husband’s enduring affection for his alma mater: “Mijarul always said that ICB, G-6/3, was better than Harvard University - because it gave him not just an academic foundation, but lessons for life.”
