ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday, while rejecting the bail application of an accused Omar Farooq in a ransom collection case, ordered his arrest within the courtroom.

A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, heard the case.During the course of hearing, the court admonished the investigating officer in the matter. Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali asked as to why weak sections were imposed despite the fact that solid evidence was furnished in the case. The chief justice further asked as to why weak charge sheet was furnished when a video of the accused collecting the ransom was available. The court also expressed annoyance over non-appearance of law officers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the provincial cases.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, a member of the bench, asked as to whether state of KP came to an end when its law officers were not appearing before the apex court.“It seems some remedy has to be made out in this regard,” Justice Azmat Saeed remarked, adding that if law officers of the province are not interested to appear before the court then next time, the provincial law secretary, home minister and chief secretary should appear and argue the cases. The court observed that due to non-appearance of the law officers of the province, the court has to adjourn these cases.
