Power, at what cost?
Electricity has become prohibitively expensive in Pakistan and it has becoming increasingly difficult for the poor to pay their bills. The industrial sector is also suffering from high energy costs, which makes their products less competitive. The recent reduction in the electricity tariff announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is a step in the right direction but our power sector still remains plagued by chronic losses and inefficiencies. These are then recovered by sending higher bills to the consumers.
Under the circumstances, the prime minister must direct the power minister to continue the hard work and take immediate measures to eradicate corruption in the energy sector so that more relief can be provided to the people.
