Cheques distributed among PWDs

HARIPUR: The Social Welfare Department here on Tuesday distributed the cheques of financial assistance among the persons with disabilities (PWDs) from Haripur tehsil.

Former provincial minister and MPA Akbar Ayub Khan was guest of honour while the Additional Deputy Commissioner Human Rights Qamar Zia Malik, officials of social welfare and special education and social activists attended the ceremony.

District Officer Social Welfare Sana Iqbal told the participants that under the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government’s Rs370 million Financial Assistance Programme to support differently abled individuals in the province, the Social Welfare Department, Haripur, had received 350 applications from PWDs who all were declared eligible under the criteria set by the provincial government. She said that each of the PWD received Rs10,000 as financial assistance.

Speaking to the participants, PTI MPA Akbar Ayub Khan said that in line with the vision of PTI’s founder Imran Khan, the provincial government was utilising efforts to provide maximum relief to the poor people, especially PWDs.

He said that the responsibility for the destitute and helpless people lay with PTI’s government that was committed to providing support to every person of the vulnerable group, including persons with abilities under a comprehensive strategy.

The launch of a financial assistance programme for PWDs was part of the provincial government’s initiatives, he added. He said that the government was cognizant of the economic problems of destitute and PWDs and would take the responsibility of bringing improvement in the living standard of those segments of society. Talking about the destitute’ support program he said that the provincial government was going to announce a monthly honorarium of Rs10,000 for each of the PWD in the province.
