Path to food insecurity
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the trend of housing societies and plots is gaining momentum. Agricultural lands are rapidly being converted into residential projects, but the relevant government agencies, anti-corruption departments, and other regulatory bodies remain silent spectators. The question arises, who issued the no objection certificates (NOCs) for these housing schemes? Even if they are legal, is sacrificing agricultural land not inviting a food crisis in the future? Experts say that unplanned and unregulated residential schemes are not only affecting the environment but are also having a negative impact on the economy. If this situation persists, there may be a significant decrease in agricultural production in the coming years, exacerbating food insecurity. The government should take strict action against illegal schemes, and formulate an effective policy for the protection of agricultural land.
