Security guard shot dead in PECHS
A security guard was shot dead on Thursday in the PECHS area of Karachi. In another firing incident, an elderly man was injured in a robbery attempt near the Super Highway.
The guard, 38-year-old Mirza Sajid Baig, son of Riaz Baig, was shot in Street No 4, PECHS Block 2. He was targeted by motorcycle-riding gunmen who fled the scene after the shooting.
Police and rescue teams arrived at the location and transported the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. SHO Inam Junejo said the victim was a night guard in the street. He was a resident of Lines Area and had a daughter. Initial investigations suggested that he was killed over personal enmity, police said. However, the victim’s family denied having enmity with anyone.
The body was later handed over to the family who stated that they would file an FIR after the burial. Further investigations are under way. In another incident, 69-year-old Zahid Hussain was shot and injured in a robbery bid near the Super Highway, DHA Phase 9. Suspects on a motorcycle opened fire on him when he resisted the mugging attempt. The injured man was shifted to Fatima Baqai Hospital for treatment while the suspects fled the scene. Further investigations are under way.
