PSW advances air cargo digitisation

KARACHI: Pakistan Single Window (PSW) has initiated the design and development phase of the airport community system (ACS) by hosting a national workshop on the ACS.

The workshop brought together public- and private-sector stakeholders to discuss its development and address challenges in the air cargo sector. It focused on international best practices, stakeholder integration and streamlining cargo operations to enhance efficiency and ensure compliance with national and international standards. The event also provided a platform for stakeholders to share insights on challenges within the air freight ecosystem.

The ACS, an allied system of the PSW, will play a critical role in enabling seamless and efficient information exchange among various stakeholders in the air freight sector. In line with the Pakistan Single Window Act 2021, all public and private entities involved in air cargo operations are required to align their processes and information-sharing mechanisms with the PSW system.

The system will collect, process and disseminate digital shipment data either through direct integration or via dedicated interfaces for stakeholders. Key features of the integrated system include data harmonisation, unified workflows and the elimination of redundant paperwork and approval procedures. By connecting airlines, freight forwarders, airport authorities, importers, exporters, agents, private transport operators, customs, and other government departments on a single electronic platform, the ACS aims to reduce processing times, optimise resources and lower business costs. The system will also provide B2B, B2G, G2G and B2C services while facilitating efficient data analytics and reporting to enhance overall air cargo operations in Pakistan.

To ensure alignment with international best practices, the PSW has engaged two international experts with support from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). These experts will collaborate with the PSW throughout the initiative, ensuring compliance with global standards while addressing the specific needs of Pakistan’s air cargo sector.

Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of PSW Naveed Abbas Memon highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating: “The successful launch of the ACS initiative marks an important step towards improving the efficiency and transparency of air cargo operations in Pakistan. We are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders collaborate seamlessly to overcome challenges and set new benchmarks in line with global best practices.”

The PSW’s commitment to trade facilitation through streamlined processes and stakeholder coordination is central to enhancing the country’s trade ecosystem.

By integrating public and private sector participants, the PSW aims to improve operational efficiency, ensure compliance with international standards, and position Pakistan as a competitive hub for global trade.
