Moderate rain breaks long dry spell

LAHORE:The provincial metropolis witnessed moderate to scattered rain with thunderstorm here on Thursday while Met office predicted a partly cloudy weather with chances of rain during the next 24 hours.

The rain started on early hours of Thursday and continued till the evening. City localities witnessed rain included Airport (22mm), Jail Road (17.2mm), Upper Mall and Gulberg (14 mm each), Qartaba Chowk (12mm), Nishtar Town and Chowk Nakhuda (11 mm), Mughalpura and Tajpura (10 mm each), Samanabad (8.5mm), Iqbal Town (8mm), Gulshan-e-Ravi (6mm), Paniwala Talab and Farkhabad (5mm each) and Johar Town (4mm).

Wasa MD Ghafran Ahmed directed the operations wing to remain vigilant and perform their duties without any negligence. He said that the city roads were almost clean from the stagnant rainwater till sunset. He said Wasa officers were directed to continue monitor the situation and take appropriate action as per the situation.

The rain ended the dry weather from the city besides bringing in the cold winds. Over the city weather became pleasant after the rain. The lowest minimum temperature in the city was recorded as 12.4°C while the maximum was 27.5°C.

Meanwhile, the average AQI of the city was 60, which came in the category of moderate while the PM2.5 concentration was 2.8 times the World Health Organization annual PM2.5 guideline value.
