KARACHI: Faisal Dashti, founding president of the Gwadar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has said that the core issues in Balochistan are socio-economic challenges that significantly impact the overall well-being and quality of life of the people, and these need to be addressed.
He highlighted that leveraging the potential of the Gwadar Port, by making it fully operational on a regular basis, has the capacity to transform the entire province. An operational port will not only serve Gwadar but also attract a significant influx of people from other parts of Balochistan, mirroring the rapid population growth seen in Karachi — once a small city of just 400,000 — due to migration driven by its port, which turned it into the country’s economic hub.
Dashti praised the formation of a committee led by Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal to operationalise Gwadar Port, expressing hope that the day is not far when Gwadar will play a vital role as the country’s economic powerhouse.
