Rain likely after a long dry spell
Islamabad: A new weather system is expected to cause rains and snowfall in parts of the country, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, from today (Tuesday) through February 22.
Snowfall is predicted in mountainous areas, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in several regions. However, Sindh is unlikely to receive any rain from this system, according to the Met Office. It said Balochistan was likely to receive significant rainfall, with snow to fall in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Qila Saifullah and Khuzdar.
Also, light to moderate rain is likely in Gwadar, Pasni, Turbat and Ormara, with some areas experiencing hailstorms. There is a forecast for good rainfall in Punjab between February 19 and 21, especially in southern and central areas. Some areas may also see hailstorms. Islamabad and surrounding areas could receive two to three rain spells during the period.
Karachi is unlikely to see rain but may experience partially cloudy skies. The western winds are likely to reduce dry and dusty conditions, while increasing humidity. The last week of February may bring cooler weather to the city. After the system subsides, a cold wave is expected to affect northern regions of the country.
