Research on treatment for eye diseases presented at OSP meeting
LAHORE:Participants at the meeting of the Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan (OSP) presented research on innovative treatments for eye diseases here on Monday.
The monthly clinical meeting was held at Asad Aslam Auditorium, College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences, Mayo Hospital Lahore. The scientific session of the clinical meeting included a scientific paper competition among postgraduate residents, in which participants presented research on innovative treatments for eye diseases.
In which Dr Fatima Riyaz stood first by presenting a paper on "New Procedures in the Treatment of Orbital Trauma". Dr Shabnam Zahid bagged the second position highlighting “Clinical Aspects of Cat Scratch Disease”. Dr Abdul Basit was in the third position presenting comprehensive research on the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases. The meeting also featured scientific sessions, scholarly discussions, and condolence references for deceased teachers.
It was chaired by OSP President Professor Dr Javed Iqbal Chaudhry, while General Secretary Professor Dr Nasir Chaudhry and prominent members of the society including Professor Dr Khalil Rana, Professor Nazir Ahmed Asi, Professor Dr Salim Akhtar, Professor Dr Qamarul Salam Lodhi, Professor Emeritus Dr Asad Aslam Khan, Professor Dr Muhammad Moin, Professor Dr Zahra Bukhari, Professor Dr Huma Kayani, faculty, and students of ophthalmology were also part of this clinical meeting.
In addition, a house officer presented a special report based on the clinical data of retinopathy of prematurity, which was not part of the competition, but was appreciated in the academic circles.
The participating doctors in this scientific session who won positions were encouraged with shields, cash prizes and certificates. The chief guest of the meeting Prof Dr Muhammad Imran (Chairman Medical Unit and Registrar King Edward Medical University) delivered an informative lecture on modern strategies in the treatment of diabetes, which apprised the participants about new research trends.
At the end of the meeting, a condolence reference was held in the memory of two late members of the society, Prof Ali Haider Shaheed and Prof Dr Anwarul Haque Hashmi. At the end, after a prayer and a minute of silence by all participants, tributes were paid to the academic services of the deceased.
Ophthalmological Society of Pakistan President Prof Dr Javed Chaudhary thanked all the participants, guests, Prof Dr Muhammad Moin as the Principal of College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences for their support.
