The ongoing anti-encroachments drive in Islamabad has negatively impacted lower-income groups. The removal of street vendors and stalls from roadsides has deprived many of their sole incomes and the potential removal of some informal settlements has led to great tension among their residents, who have worked hard to build their homes.
I urge the local authorities to take action and compensate vendors by providing them with alternate locations where they can set up their stalls and also compensate those affected by the clearing of informal settlements.
