NOWSHERA: A cop providing security for a polio vaccination team was injured when unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants opened fire on him in Umaray Killay area of Akora Khattak on Friday.
Officials said that Constable Fida Hussain, assigned to the security of the polio team, was heading towards his home in Bara Banda when two armed men on motorcycles opened fire on him, injuring him seriously. He was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The attackers managed to escape after the attack. District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Rashid Khan, Akora Khattak Circle DSP Zahid Alam and SHO Akora Khattak Police Station Ashfaq Khan arrived at the scene with heavy police reinforcements after the incident. The police cordoned off the area, set up blockades at all entry and exit points, and launched a search operation to track down the assailants.
