ADR effective system for quick dispute resolution: PHC CJ
PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim said on Thursday that there should be no fear in adopting the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) system for resolving disputes.
“Arbitration and Jirga are part of our culture,” he said while addressing the closing ceremony of a two-day training workshop for lawyers on ADR organised by the Federal Ministry of Law.Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim said that a special court for inheritance cases had been established. He said that over the past nine months, 11,000 pending cases had been resolved in district courts, reducing the total number of pending cases from 267,000 to 256,000.
He said that inheritance-related issues were a major concern, and to address them, a special inheritance court has been established in Peshawar, with plans to expand it to other districts.He announced that a special bench for inheritance cases would also be formed at the Peshawar High Court level. The CJ said that resolving people’s issues locally would reduce the burden on courts. “Providing swift justice to litigants remained a top priority, and ADR is an effective system for ensuring quick dispute resolution.
He acknowledged the difficulties litigants faced in civil cases and assured that all necessary resources would be utilised to address these challenges.At the end of the training workshop, Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim distributed shields among the participants.
