PESHAWAR: Expressing concern over the ongoing challenges in the province, particularly in the Kurram region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday said that the provincial government must act decisively to address the escalating situation.
Talking to reporters, the governor stressed the need for stronger collaboration between local police and security forces to ensure effective security in Kurram.
He suggested that the situation in the area had already escalated beyond the capabilities of local law enforcement.
The governor said he had discussed Kurram’s situation with the prime minister and would continue to advocate for greater attention to the area’s needs. However, he made it clear that the federal government could not intervene unless the provincial government requested it.
He reassured that he would not let political considerations interfere with resolving the Kurram issue. The governor condemned the police’s handling of protests, stating that the use of baton charges and shelling against demonstrators was unacceptable.
The governor pointed out the lack of progress in modernizing police services despite significant resources. “Why aren’t we investing the Rs 500 billion needed to upgrade our police force?” he asked.
