Woman lawmakers belonging to the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party have been urged to play their due role to ensure the welfare and protection of female inmates of prisons in Sindh and their children who have also been languishing in jails with them.
This direction was given to the PPP legislators at a meeting held at the Zardari House on Saturday.
PPP Women Wing Central President and Chairperson Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Faryal Talpur chaired the meeting. Sindh Law and Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Inspector General of Sindh Prisons Qazi Nazeer also attended the meeting.
The meeting took into consideration affairs related to women inmates of the prisons in Sindh. Participants of the meeting considered in detail the steps taken so far for the welfare of the imprisoned women, their accompanying minor children, and other juvenile jail inmates. The PPP Women Wing president said that immediate steps were required to beef up the correctional service for the women jail inmates, their accompanying children, and other juvenile prisoners to ensure their welfare and protection in the best possible manner. She said that modern prison reform systems should be adopted in Sindh to transform jails into correctional facilities.
