28 hospitals approved for organ transplant
LAHORE: Important decisions were taken in the light of the 33rd meeting of the Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority (PHOTA) under the chairmanship of Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.
In the light of this meeting, approval has been given to register 28 hospitals for transplantation of various organs. During the meeting, the minutes of the 30th, 31st and 32nd meetings of the monitoring authority were also unanimously approved. The monitoring authority also unanimously approved the Terms and References (TORs) of the Executive Committee of PHOTA.
According to the details, permission has been given to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre Lahore, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI) Lahore and National Institute of Blood Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation Lahore for bone marrow transplant. For Cornea transplant, permission has been given to Gujranwala Medical College Teaching Hospital Gujranwala and Al-Ahsan Welfare Eye Hospital Lahore. For Liver transplant, permission has been given to Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore, Bahria International Orchard Hospital Lahore, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI) Lahore, Farooq Hospital (DHA) Lahore and Shahida Islam Teaching Hospital Lodhran. Kidney transplants have been permitted at Jinnah Hospital Lahore, SurgiMed Hospital Lahore, Doctors’ Hospital Gujrat, Shahida Islam Teaching Hospital Lodhran, Ammar Medical Complex Lahore, Dr Hospital Lahore, Integrated Medical Care Hospital Lahore, Bahria International Hospital Lahore, National Hospital and Medical Centre Lahore, Sharif Medical City Hospital Lahore, Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore, Bahria International Orchard Hospital Lahore, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI) Lahore, Chaudhry Muhammad Akram Teaching Hospital Lahore, Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases Multan, Farooq Hospital Rawalpindi, Imran Idrees Teaching Hospital Sialkot, Bashir Health Services Sialkot, Farooq Hospital (DHA) Lahore and Bach International Hospital Multan. A policy has been unanimously approved regarding emergency liver transplant. After the consensus of the Punjab Finance Dept for the financial year 2024-25, an ad hoc relief allowance has been approved for the employees of PHOTA. To bring innovation in organ transplantation, a three-month duration course on OTC has been approved through KEMU or FJMU. The training will be imparted at PKLI. The authority approved the policy of keeping in view all the legal regulations for kidney, liver, cornea and bone marrow transplantation of foreign nationals in Pakistan.
