Another monkey dies from electric shock in Margallas
Islamabad: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) has urged visitors of Margalla Hills National Park not to feed monkeys, saying a long-tailed primate has died from an electric shock in the protected area.
This is the third such death this year, according to officials of the IWMB, which is tasked with protecting and conserving MHNP’s wildlife, flora and fauna.
They said that the animals, drawn by food offered or left by park-goers, approached power lines, resulting in fatal electrocution.
The officials urged visitors not to feed wildlife in the MHNP or litter the area to protect lives of animals, especially monkeys, who approach hazardous areas, such as power lines, in search of food.
They argued that human interference in the park's natural environment threatened wildlife through dangerous situations, such as electrocution or road accidents. The officials said that the MHNP visitors should allow monkeys and other animals to find food naturally and thus, reducing their exposure to potential risks.
