IGP orders action against cops for inaction on public complaints
KARACHI: Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Friday has ordered taking action against the relevant officer in case of inaction on public complaints based on solid evidence of theft, robbery, murder, kidnapping and other serious crimes.
He directed that the SHOs and SIOs concerned will be dismissed from service if an FIR is not registered on a public complaint related to serious crimes, delaying tactics and patronizing the elements involved in the crime.
Moreover, FIRs should be registered immediately of motorcycle and car theft, snatching of valuables, robbery, murder, kidnapping and disappearance of children and women and other complaints.
IGP Memon directed that the complaints based on allegations of abuse, organized crime, corruption, and patronage of mafias will be investigated by the Special Branch. He issued these directives while chairing a meeting on the performance of the IG Compliant Cell (CMS), and redressal of complaints and reforms. The meeting was attended by the DIGs of Headquarters, IT, AIGs of Admin, Grievance Cell, Operations and PDIT.
Memon directed that on public complaints related to non-registration of cases, the Complaint Cell will not only seek clarification from the SSP, but the SSP will also determine the reasons and responsibilities of non-registration of the case by the police and send all the details to the Complaint Cell.
He said action will be taken against SHOs and SIOs as per the police rules and they will be dismissed from service if they are found to be negligent, dilly-dallying, using delaying tactics, harassing the plaintiff and not cooperating in the registration of cases. In addition, the Complaint Cell will also listen to the complaints received from police personnel and resolve them and submit a report.
The IGP said our aim is to make the complaint system of Sindh police effective, centralized and meaningful at the public level, so in this regard all DIGs, SSPs and unit in-charges will not only listen to public complaints but also ensure their redressal. He further said that the process of free registration of FIRs in all districts should be ensured and made possible in its spirit and objectives.
