RCB ends ‘Cleanliness Week’

Rawalpindi: ‘Cleanliness Week’ by Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) concluded with a note to further enhance awareness of self responsibility among masses.

Addressing the participants at concluding ceremony at Rawalpindi Cantonment Board on Sunday, Chief Executive Officer Dr Saima Shah reaffirmed her commitment to carry on taking such initiatives in future. “Sanitation remains an important issue that is directly linked with self responsibility” she said adding that RCB will also go shoulder to shoulder with Cantnment residents in this regard.

The CEO termed ‘Cleanliness Week’ a successful campaign as it drew great response from the inhabitants. She further said cleanliness is a collective responsibility for which civil society must join hands with the govt to keep the area clean.

In his remarks, Rana Rameez, additional CEO said the week-long activity went through encouraging response from locals and residents.

He also appreciated the dedication and commitment shown by Rawalpindi Cantonment Board officials, particularly sanitation and logistic staffers while cleaning and garbage collection

Raja Jahandad, the vice president of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board on the occasion appreciated innovative approach by CEO RCB saying sanitation of the cantonment has significantly improved under her leadership.

He urged federal and provincial governments for increasing financial support to overcome sanitation issue of 1.3 million inhabitants of RCB.

At a simple but impressive walk was also organized on concluding day which was lead by CEO Dr Saina Shah and attended by RCB members and representatives from civil society. The walk started from RCB to Murree Road.

It is pertinent to mention here that during the campaign 2158 tons garbage was removed whereas approximately 60 km long road, streets and drains was cleared.

Similarly, 33 open plots were cleared and 3,500 km long sweeping was rendered. Moreover 4 awareness walks were also arranged during a hectic seven days manoeuvring.
