Federal government for the fiscal year 2016-17 has approved 460.963 million rupees budget for the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Total budget for the Ministry of Law and different programmes continued under its administration is 1.5 billion rupees.
This year in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), federal government has approved a grant of 900 million rupees for the construction of new IHC building. Construction of IHC building at Constitution Avenue is a much awaited development project that lawyers had been waiting for long as the Islamabad district court would be shifting from F-8 to the building where IHC’s current set up is located. President Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri has welcomed this step and said that it would ease for the district court lawyers. For the construction of official residence of Federal Tax Ombudsman in sector F-5/2, 30 million rupees has been approved.
For federal access to justice program all over Pakistan government has approved 400 million rupees. For public awareness and advocacy about dispute resolution, a grant of 15million rupees has been approved.
Among the unapproved programs recommended for approval were acquisition of 3.2 acre land for extension of IHC building, construction of the office Federal Tax Ombudsman secretariat, construction of the IHC judges, registrar and officer residences, construction of session division-east IHC and strengthening the ombudsman system of administrative justice and up-gradation/expansion of online complaint management information system.
