ISLAMABAD: Criticising the provincial governments of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with regard to AQI rankings of top cities of the country, Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took to social media platform X and advised the people to move to Karachi, referring to its safe measurement of AQI in comparison with cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Dear Pakistan, move to Karachi,” he wrote in his tweet. With his message on X, the PPP chairman also shared real-time AQI rankings of Pakistan’s cities recorded on November 12.
The data showed that Peshawar was on top with a reading of 591, followed by Multan with 573. Lahore stood in third spot with 479, and Rawalpindi with a measurement of 302, Haripur Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 272, Islamabad was measured at 262 while Karachi with 78 on the AQI.
Lahore, a city of 14 million people with countless factories, often ranks among the world’s most polluted cities, but it has hit record levels this month. Schools will stay shut in the main cities of Punjab until November 17 in an attempt to lower children’s exposure to pollution, especially during the morning commute when it is often at its highest.
