Charsadda teachers face suspension for protest

CHARSADDA: The district education officer on Sunday said that over 100 primary school teachers who participated in the protest in Peshawar last week would be suspended.

He said that these teachers had closed schools during their duty hours to participate in the protest, which disrupted students’ education.“Legal action has been completed for suspending more than 100 teachers assigned to various schools in Charsadda, who participated in the protest in Peshawar seeking the approval of their demands,” District Education Officer Shiraz Khan said, adding that the formal suspension orders for these teachers will be issued in the next few days.

He said that during the protest in Peshawar, schools in all three tehsils of the district had been reported as being closed, with the highest number of closures in the tehsils of Tangi and Charsadda.

The closure of these schools, he added, had severely affected the educational activities of thousands of students.He said the director of education had issued clear instructions for the suspension of teachers, who had participated in the protest during duty hours. Legal proceedings for their suspension have been completed, and the suspension orders will be issued shortly, he concluded.
