ISLAMABAD: Nepal has appointed Ms. Rita Dhital as its new AmAbassador to Pakistan, replacing Tapas Adhikari, who is relinquishing his post today (Saturday) after serving for four years.
During his tenure, he played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
Highly placed diplomatic sources told The News/Jang on Friday that Nepal’s President, Ram Chandra Poudel, has appointed Ms. Dhital as the new envoy to Pakistan, and Pakistan has issued the required agrément (consent for appointment). She is expected to assume office in Islamabad next week.
In her statement, Ms. Dhital expressed her commitment to organising a South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) conference during her parliamentary hearing in Kathmandu, when her selection as Ambassador to Pakistan was underway. Nepal has held the chairmanship of SAARC since 2015.
Ms. Dhital currently holds a Joint Secretary-level position in Nepal’s Foreign Service. Interestingly, the outgoing Ambassador, Tapas Adhikari, replaced a female envoy, Ms. Sewa Lamsal Adhikari, and now another female diplomat is succeeding him in Islamabad.
