PARACHINAR: People on Thursday launched a march to call for peace and reopening of the roads in the Kurram tribal district. The march started at 10 am after offering a special prayer.
The people from all age groups — children, youth and elders — took part in the march whose participants were on foot.Talking to the media before embarking on the march, tribal elders, Jalal Bangash and Agha Tajamal Hussain, lamented that tens of thousands of people had been confined to homes for the last 27 days because of the closure of roads for travel in various parts of the Kurram district. “The peace march is not against any tribe or sect. It is, in fact, a protest against the government which has failed to protect the people,” said Jalal Bangash. He said that people were forced into launching this march for peace after waiting for the reopening of the roads for 27 days.
