Early diagnosis, timely treatment help cure breast cancer

LAHORE:The Department of Surgery and Department of Oncology at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, organised a seminar and walk on Breast Cancer Awareness on Monday.

The Vice Chancellor of FJMU Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal was the chief guest. Principal Continental Medical College Prof Ayesha Shaukat, former Head of the Department of Surgery Prof Andleeb Khanum, and ex-Professor of Surgery Prof Hurriyet Afzal were guests of honour.

The Principal Prof Abdul Hameed, Registrar Prof Muhammad Nadeem, Dean Prof Ayesha Malik, Prof Qamar Ashfaq, faculty members, and students were present. Head of Surgery Department Prof Imran Aslam presented the Annual Report of the Well Women Breast Clinic established since 2008 at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The Vice Chancellor of FJMU Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal during his address said that the first and most thing in breast cancer is the awareness, along with this, there are preventive measures, early diagnosis, timely treatment, and the role of the qualified physician is extremely helpful in prevention of this disease. Patients must avoid quacks. He lauded the role of Professor Ayesha Shaukat, Prof Andleeb Khanum and Dr Hurriyet Afzal regarding breast cancer awareness. He congratulated Prof Imran Aslam for organising this successful seminar.

Prof Ayesha Shaukat thanked the Prof Khalid Masood Gondal for inviting her to the seminar. She said that with modern facilities, the treatment of breast cancer is improving day by day. If breast cancer is detected early enough, then it can be cured. Additionally, the panel of specialists discussed comprehensively the early detection and treatment of breast cancer and expressed their expert opinions. They said Triple Assessment is important for early diagnosis of disease.

At the end of the seminar, honorary shields were presented to the guests, presenters, and organisers by the VC Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal and an awareness walk was also organised.
