NAB decides to enlarge scope of corruption cases in Sindh

KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to enlarge its scope in corruption cases.

NAB Karachi DG Col (retd) Sirajul Naeem said that the Karachi NAB had filed 50 corruption references and recovered Rs1,304.965 million during 2016, said a press release issued here on Monday.

While briefing NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Naeem informed him that NAB Karachi disposed of 3,267 complaints during the year 2016. The number of complaints disposed of in 2016 were higher than the number of complaints disposed during this period of any previous year. In 2016, the Karachi NAB completed 33 complaint verifications out of 109 complaints. The Karachi NAB, out of 151 inquiries, completed 38 whereas out of 143 investigations, 40 investigations were completed on merit.

Chaudhry said that NAB was Pakistan’s apex anti-corruption organisation assigned with the responsibility of the elimination of corruption and corrupt practices through a holistic approach of awareness,prevention and enforcement. It operated under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999 which is extended to all of Pakistan including Fata and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“The NAB is committed to eradicate corruption by adopting zero tolerance policy across the board by using all its resources,” he said.

Keeping in view assessed annual performance for the year 2015 based on evaluation under quantified grading system conducted by Chairman’s Inspection and Monitoring Team (CI&MT) during 2016 graded Karachi NAB’s performance as outstanding and excellent with 88 percent operational efficiency index (OEI) which is highly appreciated, he added.

He further said that Karachi NAB’s excellent performance under the supervision of Karachi NAB DG had been more than any one past year in the history and directed all ranks of officers, officials of Karachi NAB to work more honestly, vigilantly and diligently in order to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country.
