Sindh expects large-scale investment to boost employment: minister

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce Jam Ikramullah Dharejo expressed optimism that due to the initiatives of the Sindh government, large-scale investment is expected in the province over the next few years, which will help reduce unemployment.

He shared this during a meeting with office-bearers of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association at his office. Also present were Secretary of Industries and Commerce Muhammad Yasin Baloch Shar and Chairman of the Association Aamir Cothani, along with other office-bearers.

The association representatives briefed the minister on the challenges faced by garment manufacturers and exporters. Minister Dharejo acknowledged the pivotal role exporters play in improving the country’s image and highlighted the critical contribution of industrialists in promoting local industry.

“The Sindh government is working to improve society in collaboration with the private sector,” he said, adding that security in industrial zones has significantly improved.Dharejo reiterated that the Sindh government is committed to supporting industrialists at all levels to resolve their issues. He added that efforts are being made to reduce unemployment by improving the functioning of industrial zones through public-private partnerships, particularly in law and order. The establishment of cluster-based industries in new industrial zones is also being encouraged. He projected that within the next five to 10 years, large-scale investments will flow into Sindh.

He further announced that under the public-private partnership model, courses related to the export industry will be introduced to increase the number of skilled workers, aiming to further reduce unemployment.
