The people of Shikarpur are in constant fear of their children being abducted. This nightmarish picture does not depict Shikarpur alone and is a grim picture of the county at large. Recently, Punjab police rescued six boys from their abusers, showing that our children are at high risk. According to a report released by the NGO Sahil, 11 children were sexually abused every day across the country in 2023.
Because most of the cases go unreported and unnoticed, this crime is rampant and needs to be addressed with an iron hand. It is time to act now and promise to safeguard our children from this abuse. If we do not take instant action against the perpetrators, we will continue to allow predators to exploit children for their own gain.
