Teachers body polls tomorrow

With the elections for the Federal Government Teachers Association just a day away, canvassing reached its peak on Saturday.
The candidates along supporters and sympathisers were seen contacting voters for support.
There are four panels in the electoral arena, including the Malik Ameer Khan-led United Teachers Forum, the Khalid Mehmood Panel, Shafiq Mughal Panel and Chaudhry Ilyas Minhas Panel.
However, the United Teachers Forum and Chaudhry Ilyas Panel have emerged as the main contestants.
The FGTA has more than 7,000 teachers of Islamabad Capital Territory’s government educational institutions as members, who will elect its new office-bearers for the 2016-18 term on Monday (March 30).
A committee headed by IMSB G-9/1 principal Abdul Jalal has been tasked with supervising the electoral exercise.
Its members are IMSG I-8/1 Principal Farzana Ashraf Gondal, IMCB G-6/2 Principal Askhta Hussain Shah, IMSB G-9/1 Principal Javed Iqbal Rana, Area Education Officer (urban) Farida Yasmeen, AEO (Sihala) Riaz Ali, AEO (Bhara Kahu) Abdul Waheed, AEO (Nilore) Ghulam Mustafa Qureshi, AEO (Tarnol) Sadia Adnan and IMSB Principal Saidpur Principal Riaz Upal as members. Riaz Upal is the committee’s secretary. The contesting panels have promised the welfare of the ICT teaching community.
