Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, daughter of former president Asif Ali Zardari, visited a police facilitation centre recently formed in Defence by the Special Security Unit, and appreciated efforts for making the centre a reality.

She was accompanied by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) acting consul general in Karachi, Bakheet Ateeq al-Romaithi.

The police facilitation centre will cover District South and redress public grievances through a one-window operation. It will be opened to public shortly after a memorandum of understanding is signed with the DHA Karachi.

Maqsood Ahmed, commandant of the Special Security Unit, briefed Aseefa about the facilities to be made available to the public at the centre

She said the efforts to establish the centre on modern lines was a remarkable step which would help facilitate the common people in resolving their issues relating to police and other departments.

Aseefa emphasised the need for early opening of other police facilitation centers in the city and hoped that all strategic and administrative partners would extend their maximum cooperation to resolve public grievances.

She opined that the police facilitation centre would play a pivotal role in presenting a better image of the police. She also commended the Special Security Unit and its staff, who had played a major role in the establishment of the centre.

The centre will be SSU staff. SSU Commandant Maqsood Memon said the police facilitation centers were vital components of an approved Promise of Peace Project. The space for the establishment of the first centre was allotted to the SSU at DHA.

The Zonal Intelligence Branch incharge (South) should be in strong coordination with the incharge of the DSP Facilitation Centre. All strategic and administrative partners may be taken into confidence to manage the working mechanism.

The helpdesk at the centre is intended to provide a trouble-free interface and guidance for resolving all sorts of public complaints. Educated and professional staff will help citizens in dealing with their problems and issues.

Memon said the police station would be dedicated to only crime control. The centre would offer quality service in a professional manner and sort cognizable and non-cognizable matters. Moreover, he added, dispute resolution committees at district and divisional levels would resolve domestic disputes while civil matters could be resolved with law consultancy by professionals.

The strategic and administrative partners of the centre were zonal police stations, Anti Car Lifting Cell, Nadra, Traffic Range, Driving Licence Branch, Defence Housing Authority, Cantonment Board Clifton, Excise and Taxation Department and Anti-Corruption Establishment, Memon said.

He said the scope of the centre was to ideally address the issues of walk-in general public.

The services include issuing and offering character certificates, police verification, legal counselling, advisory services, leaner’s driving licence, dispute resolution, non-cognizable reports, reporting of missing documents, vehicle verification, complaints against police officials, a copy of the FIR, investigation progress and traffic fines’ deposit facility.
