Another case of police involvement in kidnapping for ransom has emerged in Karachi. The incident of kidnapping for ransom took place in Korangi’s Mehran Town area on September 15; however, its FIR was registered on Tuesday after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.
It can be seen in the footage that two individuals in police uniform abducted a citizen and extorted a ransom amount of Rs500,000. One suspect in plain clothes with a weapon can also be seen along with the uniformed personnel.
The victim, Nadeem, reported that as soon as he was kidnapped, his eyes were blindfolded, and the kidnappers drove him around in a car demanding Rs1 million. He added that the kidnappers threatened to kill him and his children if he did not pay them the ransom. Eventually, the ransom was settled at Rs500,000, Naeem said, adding that the kidnappers called his family to a petrol pump near the Natha Khan Bridge to collect the money.
He further added that he was held hostage for four hours, and was released at a location not far from the Natha Khan Bridge after the ransom had been paid. No arrest had been made till the filing of this news story.
