Demand for power tariff relief: Road to Tarbela Power House blocked in protest
SWABI: The members of a social welfare organization on Monday blocked the road leading towards Tarbela Power House and the Ghulam Ishaq Institute demanding a substantial reduction in power tariff.
The protesters attempted to move towards Tarbela Power House but the authorities had deployed more than 700 personnel of police and Frontier Constabulary to block their way by placing containers on the road.Addressing the protesters, the leaders of the Haq Awaz Organization said that their demands included 300 free electricity units for each house from the Tarbela Dam.
They demanded that the domestic consumers in the area should be provided electricity at Rs3 per unit while the tariff should be set at Rs8 per unit for commercial and industrial users per unit. They demanded justice for Tarbela Dam and Ghazi Barotha Hydropower projects affectees.The protesters ended the protest and dispersed peacefully when a senior official from Tarbela Dam and the assistant commissioner of Topi talked to them.
