ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has annulled the 8-day physical remand of PTI Members of the National Assembly.
The 8-day physical remand of PTI MNAs including Sheikh Waqas Akram, Shoaib Shaheen, Zain Qureshi, Sher Afzal Marwat, Amir Dogar, Owais Haider, Ahad Chatha and others was nullified by the Islamabad High Court. The decision regarding the physical remand of Yousuf Khan, Zubair Khan, Owais Haider and Nasim Shah was also suspended. The case came up for hearing before the IHC bench comprising IHC CJ Aamer Farooq and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz on Thursday.
Opposing the move, the Prosecutor General (PG) said a bad impression would be created if the decision for physical remand was suspended. The IHC CJ remarked what bad impression would that be. This order of physical remand cannot be maintained.
The court inquired from the PG how would he defend the decision of physical remand. The prosecutor then read out FIRs against the accused MNAs.
The counsel for the petitioner pleaded with the court not to give longer physical remand. The trial court has not mentioned the reasons for granting physical remand in its order, he said.
The court, while issuing notice to Advocate General Islamabad, suspended the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad decision on physical remand. The court adjourned the hearing of the case till today (Friday).
