LAHORE:The play The White Plague has commenced at Alhamra Art Centre under the joint collaboration of Geo TV and Bodhi Works Theatre Company. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Meher Jaffri, the play is an adaptation of the 1937 theatre piece by Karel capek, presented in Urdu. The drama is a satire on nations that impose war and unleash deadly viruses against humanity. Although written in the context of World War II, its themes resonate with today's global challenges.
The play is dedicated to the legendary Zia Mohyeddin, as it was his last theatrical project. The cast includes Fawad Khan, Saad Zameer, Kashif Hussain, Samhan Ghazi, Minal Siddiqui, Safia Baloshai, Danish Irshad, and Bilal Ahmed.
The central theme revolves around a superpower preparing for a global war while the world suffers from a mysterious plague called the ‘White Plague.’ A young doctor from an underprivileged area discovers the cure but is only willing to share it if all nations agree to disarm. The play will run until September 8 (Sunday).
