Social media platforms collect Rs7bn from Pakistan in 2023-24

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed on Friday that the total sales revenue receipts of various social media platforms Google, Facebook and WhatsApp from Pakistani citizens in 2023-24 were of Rs 7.129 billion and Rs 785 million taxes were collected from these social media platforms.
In a written reply to a question of Wajiha Qamar who sought details of the revenue collected by the social media platforms, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb replied that as per the record available with the FBR, the total sales revenue receipts of the social media platforms in 2023-24 were worth Rs 7.129 billion. The Google sales revenue was Rs 6.876 billion and that of Facebook and WhatsApp Rs 343 million.
