KARACHI: Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon reportedly said on Wednesday that the medical report of a female driver booked in the Karsaz road accident last week showed she was under the influence of methamphetamine (crystal meth).
On August 19, a speeding Land Cruiser, driven by the woman driver, ploughed into three motorcycles and another car before overturning on Karsaz Road. Imran Arif, 60, and his daughter Amna died in the accident.
On Wednesday, a media report quoted IGP Memon as saying in response to a query that the office of the medical examiner at the Sindh Government Services Hospital issued the medical report of the driver. “The medical report confirms that she was under the influence of the drug methamphetamine,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Karachi Additional Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho said the ongoing investigation into the Karsaz road accident suggested that the suspect shouldn’t have been driving the vehicle. According to Geo, the city police chief said investigations into the accident case were under way.
The report has not yet been made public and will be produced before the court. However, sources close to the family have rejected such reports of drug use.
