This letter refers to the news report ‘Israeli spy chiefs taking part in talks on Gaza' (August 23, 2024). Now, if the Israelis were really serious about the ceasefire, they would have announced it during the recent visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the region. Prior to this visit, a full week had already been given to Netanyahu to organize things. Also, Biden had recently made another call to Netanyahu while Israel’s other sponsors and backers, Britain and France had sent their foreign secretaries to Israel, perhaps to assure Netanyahu of their iron-clad support.
In any case, this joke of a ceasefire is being played out by Israel only to get other countries to prevent Iran and Hezbollah from launching devastating attacks on Israel which, by causing extensive damage and casualties, could make Israelis realize that Netanyahu is as much of a threat to Israel as he is to the Palestinians and needs to be dispensed with immediately to bring peace to the region.
