KARACHI: The IT Ministry has decided to speed up the process of recovery of dues from Long Distance International (LDI) companies, sources said. The details of pending court cases have been sent to the Attorney General of Pakistan.
According to the sources, 42 court cases are pending against LDI companies, the details of which have been compiled by the IT Ministry. The federal government has been requested to approach the Supreme Court for speedy resolution of these cases. The aim of this move is to speed up the recovery of billions of rupees owed by the LDI companies. It should be noted that LDI companies owe Rs24 billion in universal service fund charges while Rs54 billion have to be paid in the form of surcharges on late payments to telecom companies.
According to sources, the licence of some LDI companies has also expired. Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima met with the Attorney General along with officials of the ministry in which the matter was discussed.
