LAHORE:Light rain was witnessed in the City here on Thursday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The rain started at noon and continued in spans till evening in various localities. Following the rain, Wasa field staff became active and cleared the roads till evening. Met officials warned that torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local drains/streams of Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Sibbi, Kohlu, Harnai, Nasserabad, Zhob, Bolan and Kashmir and DG Khan. They further warned that heavy downpour may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar from Friday (today) to Saturday (tomorrow) while landslides may cause roads closure at the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

They said monsoon currents from Arabian Sea were penetrating upper/central parts of the country while strong currents from Bay of Bengal were likely to enter upper parts and a westerly wave was also likely to enter upper parts from today evening/night. They predicted that rain-windstorm/thundershower (with few heavy falls) was expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern and south Balochistan and Sindh during the period.

Rainfall was witnessed at several cities across the country. Thursday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Nokkundi where mercury reached 48°C, while in Lahore, it was 35°C and minimum was 27°C.
