Sindh High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui said on Saturday that courts are trying to dispose of pending cases swiftly.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a mosque at Malir courts. “We will try to swiftly dispose of cases pending for a long time,” he said, emphasising the lawyers’ crucial role in the process.
The chief justice said he was happy that the first inauguration he was doing was of a mosque.
He stressed the importance of a bar room and pledged to provide facilities to lawyers. He announced plans to establish a clinic with the appointment of a doctor and expressed a commitment to provide financial support to the Malir Bar Association.
Justice Siddiqui also promised to establish a well-furnished library.
Regarding an increase in litigation, the chief justice said that alternate dispute resolution has its own importance for resolving family and business-related disputes.
He said that it has been observed that family and business-related disputed are usually resolved after five or more years through out-of-court settlement or by way of compromise.
He called upon the lawyers to first ensure mediation or conciliation process for disputes of such nature. He remarked that this exercise will not reduce their professional commitments but help to dispose of cases without any delay.
The SHC chief justice assured the bar association of providing financial assistance if possible as per the relevant procedures.
