Girls’ school needed
The village of Sirkikhel is located at a distance of roughly two kilometres from Serai Naurang city in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Its population exceeds 5000 individuals. It has a single primary school for boys, where over 500 children are currently enrolled, but lacks a primary school for girls. Girls have to travel a long distance on foot before reaching the nearest school. In the scorching heat, the small girls fall ill and can hardly attend classes regularly. The extremely chilly weather in the winter season creates similar problems. Due to rising inflation, most parents lack the financial capacity to hire rickshaws for their daughters.
The villagers have extended several requests to the provincial government for a girls’ primary school in the area but to no avail. Even our elected members paid no heed to our demands after winning seats in the provincial and national assemblies. It seems that education is not a priority for them nor do they wish to educate the young generation, especially girls. The provincial PTI government is requested to allocate funds and take prompt steps for the establishment of girls’ primary schools in the area.
